This summer, the U.S. Women’s Rugby team heading to Paris will feature 12 incredible athletes from Premier Rugby Sevens. The American squad is fueled by the drive to capture their first Olympic medal and is determined to improve on their fifth-place finish at the 2016 Rio Olympics and sixth in Tokyo 2020.
The team is led by the dynamic duo of Naya Tapper and Lauren Doyle, who have represented PR7s at events across the country over multiple seasons. Joining them for her third Olympic journey is Alev Kelter, who has led the Northern Loonies to two PR7s championships.
PR7s stars Alena Olsen, Alex “Spiff” Sedrick, Sammy Sullivan, Sarah Levy, and Steph Rovetti are making their first Olympic trip.
The team was chosen by head coach Emilie Bydwell and the high-performance staff. Bydwell is making her second Olympic appearance, alongside Lauren Barber, a performance analyst and assistant coach of the Southern Headliners, who won two titles on the 2023 PR7s circuit.
Rugby Sevens at the Olympic Games begins Wednesday, July 24, two days before the opening ceremony. The men will compete July 24-25 and 27, and the women from July 28-30. Matches will be broadcast live on Peacock and NBC networks, with updates available through @PRSevens platforms.
