Premier Rugby Sevens is making big strides in growing the game from the ground up and the Tri-State area continues to be a key pillar of that mission. Known as one of the nation’s hotbeds for rugby talent and passion, the region has seen a surge in youth development opportunities through PR7s’ grassroots initiatives.
This summer, PR7s hosted two high-energy youth camps to introduce and develop the next generation of players. On June 14, the team brought the game to Pelham, New York, followed by a dynamic camp in Westport, Connecticut on June 22. These camps offered hands-on instruction from experienced coaches and gave young athletes a chance to learn core rugby skills in a fun, competitive environment.
But the momentum doesn’t stop there.
Next up, PR7s is launching tryouts for the Long Island Rugby Academy team, designed for high school boys in grades 9–12. This Academy team is part of PR7s’ broader effort to create a clear pathway from youth rugby to elite competition, providing aspiring athletes with access to high-level training, structured development, and exposure to the sport’s growing opportunities in the U.S.
This isn’t PR7s’ first step into the Tri-State rugby scene. Last fall, the league debuted its first-ever Academy team in New York, setting the standard for what regional rugby development can look like. With more programming on the way, fans and families should stay tuned for updates on when the Academy will return.
From camps to academies, PR7s is committed to fueling rugby’s future.
